Defining Conservatism

What is a "Conservative"? I've asked a few people in the past few days and gotten quite a few answers, so I'm putting the question out here:

What is a conservative? Just add a comment and let me know. I'll post the answers within a week or so. I promise.

"That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Conservatism is a group of core principles, or virtues, that are not solely political. Conservatism plays out in a broad political sense that takes into account the 'whole person.' We value the spiritual, marital, ecclesiastical, economic, social, and moral aspects of individuals live. We respect these, and many infinite more, as criteria necessary for an individual to determine his or her own happiness.

We believe in human potential and the capacity for everyday heroes to do great things. Conservatives understand that it is not our job, nor is the government allowed, to determine the happiness or outcome of any life. We don't see groups, we don't divide you from your neighbor: our vision is a country where all those who can, do. Looking around America today, conservatives see so many vessels of human potential barbarically sacrificed, spilled on the alter of the state. For decades, Americans have followed false prophets, trusting their dignity and well-being to those unfit for command. Conservatives know that our values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are under attack: we know 2012 must be a winning year and that this outcome depends on the involvement of each of us.

We will end this administration ...don't be discouraged by the naysayers. Why shouldn't we dream heroic dreams: why shouldn't we make these dreams reality? We are, after all, Americans.

A true Conservative is one who believes in the literal interpretation of the Constitution...A person who believe that our Constitutional rights are sacred and should not be sacrificed at the altar of National Security.....

Finally, I believe a True Conservative is one who has not forgotten the virtues of possibly our Greatest Conservative President George Washington who said, "Beware of Foreign Entanglements".

The willingness to be responsible for yourself, give of yourself, and a preference those options over big government in almost every situation.
